Roswell, New Mexico – Aliens and ETs

Roswell, New Mexico

August 2020 found me spending the night in Roswell, New Mexico at the Comfort Suites. I was on a trip to Alto, New Mexico. The first day’s journey had me spending the night in Roswell.

UFO incident of 1947

I had heard of Rowell most of my life compliments of the interest in the alleged UFO incident of 1947. It was the report of an object that crashed northwest of the city in June or July 1947, allegedly an extraterrestrial spacecraft and its alien or ET occupants that made the town famous.

Mogul

Since the late 1970s, the incident has been the subject of intense scrutiny, controversy, and of a conspiracy theory regarding a classified program named “Mogul.” Many UFO proponents maintain that the military found an alien craft, captured its occupants and that the government then engaged in a cover-up.

I like the name “Mogul.” I’ve named a character Mogul in a science fiction book I’m writing.

Something Happened

In recent times, the business community has deliberately sought out tourists interested in UFOs, science fiction, and aliens. Little green men statues, monuments, and t-shirts have invaded the town.

Walker Air Force Base

The carcasses of aircraft litter the former Walker Air Force Base as do commercial aircraft waiting their turn for a fresh coat of paint.

Even the sign welcoming you to town has a spaceship on it. I’ll cover more in future posts.
