Living the Good Life
And the fruit of the spirit is … goodness.
Did you know God made you for a purpose?
- When you live the way God intended you to live, you will feel good. Your life will become meaningful.
- Why will you feel good? You will feel good you’re living with a purpose, doing what God desires you to do.
Ephesians 2:10 English Standard Version (ESV), “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
When you become a Believer in Jesus Christ (a Christian), you are not saved because of your good works (anything you did). You are saved for good works. The Christian lifestyle is a lifestyle of goodness.
The Good Life
- Some people think the good life means looking good.
- Some people think the good life means feeling good.
- Some people think the good life means having the goods.
What is goodness?
- Goodness is being and doing good.
- Remember, God made you for a purpose.

Five Suggestions For Learning to Do Good
1. Read the book (the Bible).
Psalm 119:11 King James Version (KJV), “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
2. Guard your mind.
Philippians 4:8 (KJV), “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
3. Develop convictions
If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything!
Romans 12:9 (KJV), “Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.”
4. Develop the courage to be different.
Daniel 3:13-18 (KJV), “Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”
5. Get with the right crowd.
Hebrews 10:24-25 (KJV), “ And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Conclusion
Galatians 6:9 (KJV), “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
